A bigger and better Knysna Oyster festival on the cards

Plans are in place to ensure a bigger and better 31st Knysna Oyster Festival after it attracted 50 000 visitors last year and injected an estimated R66 million into the local economy.

The 2014 Knysna Oyster Festival will run from the 4th to the 13th of July.

Festival Manager Nicci Rousseau-Schmidt says the festival will continue to contribute to the upliftment of underprivileged communities in the surrounding areas.
About R1.7-million was raised for local charities last year.

Rousseau-Schmidt says the programme will offer more than 100 events including the Knysna Wine Festival - where more than 50 of South Africa's top wines will be on offer.
This year's Festival will see the return of popular events such as the Oyster Shucking and Oyster Eating competitions and the Night Food Market.

New events will include a Junior Golf Tournament, a triathlon and a canoe relay event - all aimed at the teenage market.

Rousseau-Schmidt says there'll also be a new mountain bike endurance event for adrenalin junkies.
