98.3% pass for IEB matriculants

Matriculants who wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams achieved a 98.3% pass rate in 2015 — a result that is comparable to that achieved in the previous year.

The results, announced shortly after midnight on Tuesday,  showed that of those 10,212 candidates who wrote the examination, 85.26% achieved a result that allows them to apply to study at university, while 11.66% of the candidates achieved a pass that allows them to apply to study a diploma course.

IEB Chief Executive Anne Oberholzer said the IEB is proud of the achievements of the Class of 2015 who have achieved the first major milestone in their learning careers.

In 2014 the pass rate was 98.38%

14 schools in the Eastern Cape comprising 549 learners wrote the IEB matric exams this year.

There were 100% matric pass rates for the likes of DSG, Kingswood College, St Andrews College, St Dominics Priory, Harvest Christian School and Merrifield Preparatory School in East London.
