8 killed in Eastern Cape taxi accidents

Six people, including a child, were killed when a minibus taxi lost control and hit a barrier on the N2 near the Van Stadens River bridge outside Port Elizabeth early on Sunday morning.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Traffic Department says 9 others were seriously injured and taken to Livingston Hospital.

Two more people were killed in another taxi accident on the R61 near Mthatha late on Saturday evening.

The Department says a Toyota Quantum collided head-on with a bus.

Two people in the minibus were killed instantly, while the driver of the bus sustained serious injuries.
