Seven veld fires raged in the Port Elizabeth area on Friday, but no reports of damage or threats to buildings were received.
Municipal spokesperson Marthie Nel said that fire tenders were attending to blazes in the Forest Hill-, Malabar-, Algoa Park-, Motherwell-, Cleary Park- and Gelvandale areas.
The largest fire was the one in the Forest Hill area, while the ones at Malabar and Cleary Park have also been described as "large".
Nel has asked motorists in the city to make way for fire enigines and not to throw cigarette buts out of their car's windows.
She said so-called "bush sleepers" may also have started some of the fires.
