A 21-year-old-year old Port Elizabeth man will spend Christmas behind bars following his arrest shortly after a shooting in Gelvandale on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said a 20-year-old man was standing with his friend on the corners of Durban and Kamma Streets when shots were fired at them.
She said a young man was wounded in his right leg.
Naidu said while the Provincial Gang Investigation Team was still busy with the crime scene they received information about a possible suspect.
"As police entered Highfield Road they noticed a group of men running. A man was apprehended and a browning pistol was confiscated," Naidu said.
She said the suspect will appear in court next Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
