Police in Makhanda are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a motorist literally flew through the air on Somerset street on Tuesday.
Captain Mali Govender says 28-year-old Sithembiso Sibiya told police that he dropped off his friends at the military base shortly before midnight and ‘bumped’ the pavement on his way home.
According to Sibiya, his airbags popped out and he lost control of his Toyota Etios, which flew through the air before hitting a wall.
The dramatic incident was caught on CCTV camera, which shows a car clearing the traffic circle at high speed and miraculously landing on all four wheels.
Captain Govender says Sibiya refused treatment at the scene of the accident and also did not want to go to hospital.
She says officers later noticed that Sibiya was bleeding from both his ears and nose.
Sibiya, who was visibly shaken and disoriented, was then taken to hospital by his brother.
