Two South African pilots have been killed in a plane crash in western Tanzania over the weekend.
The two men, Des Werner and Werner Froneman, who are the directors of the company 'U Dream Global' had been involved in last month’s successful attempt to fly a home-built aircraft from Cape Town to Cairo.
According to Tanzania's Civil Aviation Authority, they died after their Sling plane, which crossed into Tanzanian airspace from Uganda en route to Malawi, made a distress signal about engine failure before disappearing from radar.
The engine and a few other parts were the only parts of the plane that were recovered after the rest of it was destroyed by the fire which broke out after the crash.
The U Dream Global organisation took to Facebook over the weekend to express their devastation upon hearing the news.
