It has been nearly seven weeks since a French sailor, Emmanuel Dailler took off on a solo mission from the Hout Bay Yacht Club.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is now appealing to the Maritime Community and Maritime Rescue Services across the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean as well as the Maritime Community at large to assist in their ongoing efforts to determine the whereabouts and well-being of the 56-year-old sailor.
Dailler departed on his sailing yacht 'Akela II' on the 2nd of March en route to Martinique in the Caribbean.
There is now an appeal to seafarers on the Atlantic Ocean, islands across the Atlantic Ocean, West African coastal Ports, Caribbean Ports, and now also across the Indian Ocean, East Coast African Ports and Australia's, requested to keep a look-out and report any sightings or contact with AKELA II.
NSRI CEO, Dr Cleeve Robertson says no formal search can be launched at this stage, because they only knew that he departed from Hout Bay, expecting to head toward the French Caribean.
He says if Dailler changed his mind to go East, then hopefully anyone can help shed light, whether fellow sailors, fishermen or even commercial motor vessels.
The NSRI says it is important to note that there is currently another vessel in the Caribbean with exactly the same name, but that this is purely a coincidence.
