The French solo sailor, Emmanuel Dailler, who was last heard of on 2 March when he set sail from Hout Bay Yacht Club on the yacht Akela II, has arrived safely at Martinique Island in the French Caribbean.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says maritime authorities, French authorities, and the maritime community at large had been waiting for any news on his progress after he left Hout Bay Yacht Club and was believed to be heading to Martinique Island.
He says Dailler informed his wife and family of his safe arrival at his destination during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Lambinon says the NSRI remained in close contact with the family in cooperation with French and South African authorities during the period.
"We urge all sailors to ensure that their safety equipment is up to date and in good working condition, as it can be life-saving in an emergency situation", he said.
The NSRI said it was confident that more information would be forthcoming following the news of Dailler's safe arrival.
