More than a hundred people are still missing after the blast in the Lebanese capital Beirut that claimed the lives of at least 157 and injuring more than 5 000.

Earlier on Friday local authorities arrested 16 people in connection with the explosion at a factory where ammonium nitrate was stored.

Meanwhile, foreign assistance continues to be offered.

According to the founder of Gift of the Givers, Imtiaaz Sooliman, the South African aide organisation is also assisting.

The powerful explosion ripped through Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, on Tuesday evening.

The massive explosion at the port caused widespread damage to buildings up to 10 kilometres away, shattering windows in different parts of the city.
