President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their victory in the US presidential election.
Ramaphosa said on his official Twitter account that he was looking forward to working with the two to strengthen relations between South Africa and America.
According to the Independent, the Pennsylvania-born Biden, who was vice-president under the first black US president, Barrack Obama, received more votes than any candidate ever in a presidential election.
Harris will also become the first female vice-president-elect.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump underlined that states had not yet certified the results and his campaign has launched multiple legal challenges.
