Qatar deletes statement referring to Soweto shooting as terrorism

A peculiar tweet posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar condemning the tavern massacre in Soweto has been deleted.

The message posted on the Ministry's official Twitter account went viral on Sunday and raised more than a few eyebrows.

In the message, they strongly condemned the incident adding that the State of Qatar held a firm position on the rejection of violence and terrorism, regardless of the motion or reason.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation's head of Diplomacy Clayson Monyela took to Twitter himself to state that Qatar was good friends with South Africa and that their statement was to pledge solidarity, however, they have agreed to delete their statement on the shooting to allow for the outcomes of the investigation before labelling the incident.

There have been suggestions that extortion rackets are behind the weekend's massacres.

Fifteen patrons were killed at a Tavern in Soweto and no arrests have been made.
