Somali pirates have acquired sophisticated Libyan weaponry for bolder attacks on ships off the East coast of Africa.
That's according to security analyst Judith van der Merwe of the Centre for the Study of Research on Terrorism.
She was quoted as saying that weapons like mines and shoulder-held missile launchers were being acquired in one of the biggest black markets for illegal gun smugglers.
Van Der Merwe says Somali pirates are among those buying weapons from arms dealers in Sierra Leone and Liberia among other countries.
