Harry and Meghan's unnamed baby boy is seventh in line to the British throne and is expected to hold dual citizenship of Britain and the United States.
These are the other royals who are closest in line to succeed 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth II, in order of hierarchy:
- Prince Charles, 70, the prince of Wales and eldest child of the queen and 97-year-old Prince Philip, has waited more than 67 years to succeed his mother.
- Prince William, the duke of Cambridge, 36, is the eldest child of Charles and the late Princess Diana. William is the most popular royal with the public, pushing his grandmother, the queen, into second place, according to a recent YouGov poll.
- Prince George of Cambridge, 5, is the eldest child of William and his wife Kate, the duchess of Cambridge.
- Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, 4, is William and Kate's second child.
- Prince Louis, the infant third Cambridge child, was born on April 23, 2018.
- Prince Harry, the duke of Sussex, 34, is Charles and Diana's second son. He married Meghan, the duchess of Sussex, 37, in May 2018.
- Child Sussex, Harry and Meghan's newborn son
- Prince Andrew, the duke of York, is 59. He is the queen and Prince Philip's third child after Charles and Princess Anne.
Anne, 68, misses her place on the list because of antiquated rules of succession favouring male heirs. The rules were finally changed in 2011.
- Princess Beatrice of York, 30, is Andrew's eldest daughter with his ex-wife Sarah, the duchess of York.
- Princess Eugenie of York, Andrew and Sarah's second daughter, is 29 years old. Eugenie married her long-term boyfriend, events manager Jack Brooksbank, 32, in October.
- Prince Edward, the earl of Wessex, 55, is the queen's fourth and last child.
