EC farmer arrested for alleged rape of daughter

File

A 40-year-old Eastern Cape farmer is expected to apply for bail on Thursday after being arrested for the alleged rape of his seven-year-old daughter.

Provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, says the man appeared in court in Graaff Reinet on Monday on charges of rape.

He says the farmer was remanded in custody until his bail hearing.

Nkohli says he was arrested and charged for allegedly raping his daughter on several occasions.

The farmer who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter was arrested a decade ago on charges of treason.

The suspect was arrested and charged for allegedly plotting to kill President Jacob Zuma and other high-ranking ANC officials during the Mangaung conference in 2012.

The trial of his co-accused became known as the "Boeremag Trial".

Nkohli confirmed to Algoa FM News that it was the very same person who was arrested this week.

He said he was also made aware of another pending case out of Oudtshoorn against the same farmer.
