YouTube released a statement today, Tuesday 19 September, stating that Russell Brand will no longer be able to earn an income from the video streaming site after shocking allegations of sexual assault emerged against him last week.
Several women have accused the comedian turned influencer of assault. According to The Guardian the four allegations date from between 2006 and 2013 with London’s Metropolitan Police force reporting that since those claims came to light, it had received a report of a separate sexual assault dating from 2003.
YouTube said monetization of Brand’s account, which has 6.6 million subscribers, has been suspended “following serious allegations against the creator.”
“This decision applies to all channels that may be owned or operated by Russell Brand.”
The remaining dates of a string of live performances by Brand in the UK have subsequently been postponed.
Brand has vehemently denied all the allegations, posting this clip on social media three days ago.
