The smash-hit YouTube song is called Baby Shark, and while some confess to finding it a tad annoying, it has officially overtaken the 2017 single, Despacito by Puerto Rican pop stars Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, to become the most-watched YouTube video ever.
The track was recorded by South Korean Company, Pinkfong for South Korean children and is most definitely one of those earworm songs . Upon watching it I confess to singing along - ' Baby shark – doo doo doo doo doo doo' - not much to the lyrics – it is annoying but very catchy!
Baby Shark was first released in November 2015 and has now ratcheted up 7.05 billion views. It spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the Official Singles Chart – a position never before achieved by a children’s song. It also spawned the viral dance challenge #BabySharkChallenge, which gave rise to over one million cover videos across the globe.
And believe it or not - Baby Shark has also earned itself Diamond Certification, having sold 11 million records, alongside the likes of superstars Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga.
