Meyiwa was a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League, and for the South Africa national team. On the night of 26 October 2014, he was shot and killed in a robbery at the Vosloorus house of his actress and singer girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo. Taken to a Johannesburg hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was just 30 years old with a bright future ahead of him.
