Tami and Dylan Marriott are ecstatic at having scooped the best short film award at the Enfoque International Film Festival in Puerto Rico for their movie titled Alone. Up against 475 films, it was no small feat.
The Durban based couple, who own and run the production company called The Edit Room, say that they never expected their film to generate so much interest, let alone come out on tops. But it seems with most of the globe in lockdown, it was a theme that resonated strongly with the judges as it focuses on the mental and emotional challenges we are all experiencing while in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the organisers the Enfoque Annual Film Festival was established with the “purpose of showing inspiring films that will contribute and change people’s life’s through the power of cinematography. Honouring a wide variety of cinema and awarding storytellers from around the globe… We present some of the greatest new feature films and short films by emerging filmmakers to be recognized by a series of Jury and Audience Awards. The films we select and exhibit – whether they inspire, uplift, educate, transform and inform, or have the ability to shift audiences’ perspectives on the world – all have one thing in common: they are entertaining films that do more than just entertain. We present films that promote values, family and social interest subjects.”
Since they received news of their win, the Marriotts have been inundated with requests for interviews. They expressed their gratitude on their Facebook page saying,” Good Morning wonderful people...please go check out our short film “Alone”, it’s all about being isolated during lockdown and the mental strain that can have on a person. Let’s start a conversation, let’s communicate with each other and let’s get through this - together!
Watch Alone right here. Written & Directed by Tami Marriott, it stars Emma Devine and was shot inside a home office. Through an incredible team effort in post-production from folk working remotely, it was all brought together. Entries for the short film category had to be made this year and had to be under 30 minutes long.
