The trailer for the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect has dropped and it proves yet again that Hudson is both a vocal powerhouse and skilled actress.
This upcoming American biographical drama is directed by Liesl Tommy from a screenplay by Tracey Scott Wilson and also stars Mary J blige, Forest Whittaker, and Titus Burgess. It’s due for release in cinemas in September.
The movie chronicles Franklin's road to stardom from humble beginnings as a singer in the New Bethel Baptist Church choir in Detroit, Michigan, where her father C.L. Franklin was a minister.
Upon turning 18 she began her career as a secular music artist for Columbia Records but it was only after signing with Atlantic Records in 1966 that Franklin found fame and fortune, so much so, that by the end of the 1960s she had come to be known as the 'Queen of Soul.'
Jennifer Hudson is an Academy Award winner, Golden Globe winner, and two-time Grammy winner.
