WATCH: CNN pays tribute to the iconic talk show host Larry King

Larry King

The 87-year-old broadcaster was a giant in the talk show industry, he was taken to hospital in Los Angeles in late December after having tested positive for COVID-19 – it was announced Saturday that he had passed away.

His son Chance King, confirmed King's death posting on  Facebook, "With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles."

The statement did not give a cause of death which has since still not been confirmed to the media.

King, whose career spanned more than six decades, is estimated to have conducted more than 50,000 interviews. He retired in 2010 after having hosted "Larry King Live" on CNN for over 25 years, interviewing presidential candidates, celebrities from every walk of life, movie stars and even the man in the street.

His trademark technique was to never allow his ego to take over, his guests were always  centre stage in every interview, he often said, “I never learnt anything when I was talking.”

King had Type-2 diabetes and had suffered from lung cancer, angina and heart attacks in recent years.

This tribute was compiled by CNN.
