WATCH: Canadian-South African model Maye Musk joins son Elon on SNL

Maye Musk with son Elon

South Africa was well represented on Saturday night’s edition of Saturday Night Live when Maye Musk joined her famous son as he hosted the US TV comedy show ahead of Mother’s Day.

Seventy-three-year-old Maye was welcomed onto the stage by Elon looking absolutely stunning, it is easy to see why the age-defying beauty has been a model for over 50 years.

A Canadian-South African model and dietitian, she has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Time magazine's health edition, Women’s Day, and Vogue. The New York Post once said of the glamourous Maye," she is a star in her own right". While born in Saskatchewan Canada, she married Errol Musk, a South African electromechanical engineer, pilot, sailor, consultant, and property developer, she divorced him in 1979.

In addition to the guest appearance by his mum, whose South African accent must have been music to the ears of those watching from Mzansi, another first on the show was Elon revealing that he has Asperger's Syndrome.

The 49-year-old Tesla CEO said in his introductory monologue that he is the first person with Asperger's to host the show, "Or at least the first person to admit it."

His sense of humor clearly on display he also said: "Look, I know I sometimes say or post strange things, but that's just how my brain works. To anyone who's been offended, I just want to say I reinvented electric cars, and I'm sending people to Mars in a rocket ship. Did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?"

What is Aspergers?

According to Psychology Today, Asperger's syndrome refers to a high-functioning form of autism. Although it was once classified as its own condition, Asperger’s is no longer an official diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). The behavior ascribed to Asperger’s is now encompassed under the umbrella diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
