WATCH: Annie Lennox needs your signature

Annie Lennox

Scottish singer-songwriter, and philanthropist, Annie Lennox, is adding her voice to a  petition calling on President Biden to assist in getting a covid vaccine to the poorest of the poor.

Taking to social media the 66-year former lead singer of the  Eurythmics said, “Only 1 in 500 people in poor countries around the world has been vaccinated against Covid-19. In rich countries, it’s 1 in 4. I’m calling on President Biden @JoeBiden to insist pharmaceutical companies suspend the patents on all Covid-19 vaccines. This will enable developing countries to boost production on every continent and stop the virus in its tracks. Will you join me? Sign and share the #PeoplesVaccine petition. LINK IN BIO

Having herself been vaccinated a couple of weeks ago, the short clip asks that we all join the People’s Campaign and sign the petition.

The petition is managed by the global online non-profit organization Avaaz, launched in January 2007, it promotes global activism on issues such as climate change, human rights, animal rights, corruption, poverty, and conflict.

A press release dated 28th April by the NPO stated: As a deadly second wave is sweeping India, with people dying on the streets outside hospitals, the US administration is under pressure to share the vaccine recipes -- and they are seriously considering it. If in the next 24 hours we send President Biden thousands of messages, we could inspire him to be the courageous leader the world needs. Ask Joe Biden to lift the patents and share the science with the world, so that more countries can produce life-saving vaccines.
