A judge has agreed to Spears personally addressing the Los Angeles court dealing with her long-running conservatorship.
Thirty-nine-year-old Britney Spears has been under conservatorship since 2008, the court-appointed adviser controlling her personal and financial affairs, including her medical treatment, security and career, is her father Jamie Spears.
In the past 13 years, Britney has rarely made a court appearance or publicly commented about the controversial legal arrangement since Jamie Spears was appointed his daughter’s conservator after the pop star was hospitalized for psychiatric treatment following a much-publicized breakdown.
Her lawyer Samual Ingham told a court on Tuesday, “My client (Britney Spears) has requested a hearing at which she can address the court directly My client has asked that it be done on an expedited basis.”
The judge has set a June 23 hearing for Spears to speak to the court. It is not known what she is planning on addressing, she made it known last year through her representatives that she no longer wants her father involved in her affairs.
A previous bid to remove him failed in August 2020 and a hearing on Tuesday on a new request to replace him with someone else was postponed until July without discussion.
Britney has not performed in public since October 2018 but she is a frequent Instagrammer, often posting provocative videos of herself dancing and singing at her Los Angeles home.
In 2019, she pulled out of a Las Vegas concert residency and spent a short spell in a mental health facility.
The release of a television documentary in February, Framing Britney Spears, intensified media and public speculation about the case and spurred on the #FreeBritney movement started by fans.
