supplied

Iconic South African vocalist and music producer Dennis East died at age 73 on Monday morning after a stroke on Friday.

Probably best known as the lead singer of 80’s rock band Stingray which he formed in 1978, East was also an accomplished solo artist and music producer, who worked with countless South African musicians.

He was particularly popular in the Eastern Cape and often headed the judging panel of the former On the Go Show. In the early ’90s, East produced a jingle package for the (then Radio Algoa), before being invited to co-host a show called the Home Zone with Alfie Jay between 1997 and 1999.

Algoa FM would like to offer its deepest sympathies to family, friends and fans.
