The curtain has come down on the life of the legendary Dame Angela Lansbury who died peacefully at home Tuesday 11 October at the age of 96.
A family statement said,” The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 today, Tuesday."
A collective outpouring of love and respect has since seen social media light up with accolade after accolade for the beloved actress whose career spanned eight decades.
American actor Josh Gad was one such celebrity who aptly said, “It is rare that one person can touch multiple generations, creating a breadth of work that defines decade after decade. #AngelaLansbury was that artist. Her spectacular career saw her receive an Honorary Oscar Award, 3 Oscar nominations, 18 Emmy nominations, 1 Grammy nomination, 6 Golden Globe Awards, and 5 Tony Awards, plus the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 2022.
On being made a Dame by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2014 she said: “I'm joining a marvellous group of women I greatly admire like Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, it’s a lovely thing to be given that nod of approval by your own country and I really cherish it".
Born Angela Brigid Lansbury on the 16 October in Regent’s Park, London, England,she died just shy of her 97th birthday.
