On the 20th January, Mr Biden will still be sworn in as president on the steps of the Capitol despite security concerns following riots by Trump supporters.
US democratic processes ground to a halt January 6 when these supporters stormed Capitol Hill. These chaotic scenes were beamed across international news networks, showing Trump supporters breaching barricades and thronging the stairs to the building. Five people died, including a police officer, two explosive devices were found, but did not go off.
Despite all of this Mr Biden said that he was “not afraid of taking the oath outside."
The guest list for the inauguration has been scaled down and parade viewing stands have been dismantled near the White House to discourage crowds.
President Donald Trump will not be attending the ceremony, making him the first president in more than 150 years to do so.
