The iconic superstar is reported to have died peacefully at home at the age of 83 on Wednesday 24 May in Switzerland where she had been living for many years.

Her family broke the news of her passing to the world via a statement that read, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner.  With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

While no exact cause of death has been released, Turner had many well-documented battles with her health over the last decade.

The Grammy-winning singer's health began to fail a decade ago when in 2013 three months after marrying her second husband Erwin Bach she suffered a stroke at age 73. While recovering from the stroke her decades-long issue with high blood pressure was discovered to have caused her kidneys to weaken. Turner decided to go against doctors' orders and opted for a homeopathic remedy causing her condition to quickly worsen. A couple of months down the line she was faced with the news that she had early-stage intestinal cancer after which her kidneys began to fail. Nearly at death's door, Bach donated one of his kidneys to perform a life-saving transplant on his wife.

She opened up about these health scares in the March 2021 two-part HBO documentary simply titled Tina.
