Margaret Atwood, author of the best-selling novel "The Handmaid's Tale" is set to write a sequel inspired by modern America and a high demand from the public.
The novel is the basis for the Primetime Emmy Award-winning Hulu series of the same name.
The sequel will follow Offred, the narrator, 15 years after the final scene.
In a statement on Twitter, Atwood confirmed she is indeed writing the sequel.
Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in Sept 2019. More details: https://t.co/e1umh5FwpX pic.twitter.com/pePp0zpuif
