The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flout COVID-19 restrictions

Prince William and Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton have come under fire from the British public after being caught breaking Britain’s strict new lockdown rules.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with their three children, were caught on camera spending some time with Prince Edward’s family at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Adding up the numbers, the group consisted of nine people, which is three more than allowed by the government under the Tier 2 restrictions.

According to the UK government website, Tier 2 restrictions explicitly state, "You can see friends and family you do not live with (or do not have a support bubble with) outdoors, in a group of no more than six. This limit of six includes children of any age."

However, royal sources told The Daily Mail that it was never the family's intention to meet at the Christmas-themed art instalment, Luminate and that the two groups arrived separately.

As far as Christmas itself goes, it's unclear how the royal family will be celebrating with COVID restrictions keeping many families in the UK apart this holiday season.

It is believed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will spend the time at their home in Santa Barbara, Calif.
