Elizabeth Debicki

The wait is over -  it has been officially announced that Elizabeth Debicki will play Diana, Princess of Wales, in the final two seasons of Netflix’s blockbuster series The Crown.

The historical drama about the reign of Queen Elizabeth has been hungrily absorbed by both lovers and haters of the monarchy. There has been much anticipation ahead of the introduction of Lady Diana, arguably the most famous ‘royal’ of them all.

If you are wondering who Debicki is  - here’s a brief bio :

She was born in Paris to a Polish father and a mother of Austrian/Irish descent, She grew up in Melbourne where she completed a degree in drama at the University of Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts.

She made her debut film appearance in 2011, in a supporting role in A Few Best Men, an Australian comedy that also starred  Rebel Wilson and Olivia Newton-John.

Debicki has also appeared in other TV series such as The Night Manager and The Kettering Incident, both made in 2016. There are those who say she bears an uncanny likeness to the Princess of Wales.

The news was announced via social media on the official Twitter page of The Crown. The post included a quote from the actress who said "Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.

"It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one."

The Crown was created and written by Peter Morgan and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. The fourth season will, in addition to seeing the introduction of Lady Diana, cover Margaret Thatcher’s reign as Prime Minister.  The fifth and sixth seasons, which will close the series, will cover the Queen's reign into the 21st century.
