Contentious Afrikaans singer and musician Steve Hofmeyr has confirmed that he will no longer be taking part in the "Afrikaans is Groot" concert.
This is the end result of months of mixed reaction and boycotts from sponsors over his inclusion on the line-up of the concert which is set to take place later this year.
Big sponsor names such as Media24 and Toyota SA, MTN and Coco-Cola all ended their relationship with the concert after a 2014 tweet of Hofmeyr's resurfaced in which he said that black people were the “architects of apartheid”.
His statement on his Facebook page details the outcome of a meeting he had with the concert organisers.
