South African series The River has received its first International Emmy nomination in the Best Telenovela category.
The show, produced by Tshedza Pictures, features an all-star South African cast and follows the lives of two families from vastly different backgrounds. As stated on their website, it is a story about “immense wealth and immense poverty, The Haves and The Have Nots - bound together by secrets, murder and betrayal as they battle for the land”.
It will go up against other telenovelas from across the globe at the Awards ceremony on 25 November at the Hilton Hotel in New York.
The River airs weekdays on 1Magic (DStv 103) at 20:00.
