News of the termination of the R249m Archetypes podcast deal split between Spotify and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke over the weekend eliciting a strong response from Bill Simmons, Spotify's head of podcast innovation and monetization.

Simmons’ scathing comments about the couple included calling them "f--king grifters”.

According to several publications, including Sky News Australia, in late 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed an R249m deal with the streaming giant, but, in almost three years, Archetypes is the only Spotify project they have completed.

The Daily Express reported that a spokeswoman for the Archewell productive media company has since made a short comment stating : "The team behind Archetypes remain proud of the podcast they created at Spotify. Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform."
