South Africans are taking to social media to call for the government to officially ban Pit Bulls following last month’s deadly attack on 10-year-old Storm Nuku.
On 26 September, Nuku was mauled to death by two family-owned Pit Bulls in Gelvandale, Gqeberha.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police were called to the house in Antia Drive around 1:15 pm. When police arrived at the scene, they were forced to shoot and kill the two dogs. Colonel Naidu says Storm died on the scene.
This unnecessary tragedy has once again sparked heated debates about the power breed. In response to the outcry, the Pit Bull Federation of South Africa has issued a document via social media and is pleading for citizens to not buy Pit Bulls as pets.
