The South African film 'The Voice Behind the Wall' by Gideon Breytenbach and Riku Lätti has won the 2023 Cannes Film Award for Best African Film.
The controversial 2022 documentary is described as “examining the Afrikaans music industry and the racial imbalances that persist almost 30 years since the end of Apartheid and exposes the erasure of brown contributions to the Afrikaans culture”.
The film features Churchill Naude, Anton Goosen, Frazer Barry, Deniel Barry, Schalk van der Merwe, David Kramer, and Piet Botha.
