After announcing on his radio show, prior to news of the extended lockdown being announced, that he had inside information about what President Ramapohosa was going to reveal in his address to the nation on Thursday 9th April, Somizi was charged for contravening government lockdown regulations. But, after the ordeal of having charges laid against him and being arrested, he wasted no time in doing some good.
As we all know the extended lockdown has meant that the vulnerable amongst us are even more at risk of going hungry unless government and the more fortunate step up to the plate and offer a helping hand to those in need.
A round of applause is most definitely in order for Somizi and husband Mohale who have done just that and dipped into their own pockets to assist the destitute.
The recently wed couple ,Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung and Mohale Motaung-Mhlongo, were proud to announce over the weekend that they have launched the Somhale Foundation with the sole purpose they say of "changing the world, one person at a time."
Their first good deed was revealed on social media as they let their followers know that they had bought R200 000 in food vouchers from Makro to donate to 400 destitute families. They also asked their followers to like their Somhale Foundation Instagram account saying, "Please follow us….big things are coming.”
The couple then went about the business of distributing the vouchers in two informal settlements in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni over the long weekend.
While many a celebrity is bemoaning the fact that they are ‘incarcerated’ inside their mansions and feeling rather frustrated, it is good to see Mzansi stars doing their bit for their country.
Nice one guys!
PS: Somizi will have to appear at the Randburg Magistrate Court on April 30 for the charges laid against him.
