Mbongani Ngema has announced to the media that he has begun working on a musical to honour the life of the iconic Nelson Mandela.
Mbongani told TshishaLIVE that he had been waiting for the right time to start working on it, and with 2018 being the centenary celebration of Mandela’s life, it was indeed the right time to put together his vision for the creation of a theatrical piece that would truly embody the spirit of Madiba.
He says the production will be ready for opening night next year. As of now there has been no word on casting. The challenge, according to Mbongani, is to show Madiba through the various stages of his life.
Mbongani will receive a lifetime achievement award at the prestigious SA Music Awards next month. The awards will take place on 2 June at the Sun City Resort and will be aired at 20:00 on SABC1.
