Bryan Randall, the long-term partner of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock, has died after a three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The news was revealed by the 57-year-old’s family in a statement to US magazine People.
It reads: "It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS. Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."
Bullock and Randall began dating in 2015 after meeting at her son Louis' birthday party. Randall, a photographer, had been hired to commemorate the event. He owned his own company, Bryan Randall Photography, and focused primarily on children’s portraits and outdoor scenes. Before discovering a love for the art of picture-taking, Randall worked as a model.
Bullock was once quoted as calling him "the love of my love."
May you rest in peace, Bryan Randall.
(South Africans will recall that former Springbok scrum Jooste van der Westhuizen was diagnosed with the disorder in 2011 dying on February 6th 2017 in Johannesburg)
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to stop working properly.
It is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, after the famous New York Yankees baseball player who was forced to retire after developing the condition in 1939.
