This highly anticipated movie was selected as South Africa’s official entry for the 2019 Academy Awards, it also won the award for the Best South African Feature Film at the Cape Town International Film Festival last year. Despite not receiving a nomination for the Oscars, the movie has been making waves globally.
The Hollywood Reporter has described it as “an operatic mix of Western-style manhunt thriller and boldly experimental biopic.” It was also well received at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018.
‘Sew the Winter to My Skin’, is directed by Jahmil X. T Qubeka and it opens at movie houses across South Africa this Friday, February 8th. The movie is an unconventional re-enactment of the story of John Kepe, a legendary outlaw of pre-apartheid South Africa.
Ezra Mabengeza plays the leading role along with Zolisa Xaluva, Bok van Blerk, Mandisa Nduna and Bongile Mantsai in supporting roles.
