British pop star Robbie Williams still thinks about taking drugs. The Rock DJ singer, 42, suffered from alcoholism and substance abuse problems throughout the early part of his career, with veteran musician Elton John intervening to help when Robbie was a member of the boyband Take That in the 1990s.Although the musician is now alcohol and drug free and happily married to TV star Ayda Field, 37, he isn't entirely free of the demons which haunted his wild days."I don't want to drink and I don't want to take coke (cocaine), I'm really pleased I don't take coke but I do think about ecstasy," Robbie tells British newspaper The Sun.
The singer admits his battle with depression and anxiety issues is a long-term one, adding: "I still suffer from anxiety. As I look out at the skyline, I'm sure that at every window someone is facing their own worry and panic about their own life."Robbie, who has two children with Ayda - Theodora, four, and Charlton, 23 months - has even recently returned to therapy to help him cope with the pressures of promoting his new album, Heavy Entertainment Show."I've been to therapy again this year," he explains.
"It's a big do putting an album out, speaking to people like yourself and going on TV shows and then doing it again, country after country. "Even if I was the most sound person, it would be stressful. And I'm not the most sound person - I am the opposite of that."Robbie believes that despite his home life being settled, he will always have to take precautions to ensure he remains mentally healthy. "It's either low-level or high-level depression," he says.
"So I try to take care of myself the best I can. If that means resting and taking myself away for a few hours then I will."Depression is a lifelong thing and I know I can still work and still pull it off, even though I'll be feeling low. So I'm as kind to myself as possible."Heavy Entertainment Show is released on 4 November (16). It's lead single, Party Like a Russian, was released last week (end02Oct16).
