News broke last night ,September 14, of the death of Reeva Steenkamp's father, Barry, at the age of 80.
Sharing the news on Facebook, The Reeva Steenkamp Foundation said : "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Barry Steenkamp in his sleep, on the early evening of 14 September 2023.”
"Barry was a blessing to many, and he will be remembered with love and great fondness. We find solace in the knowledge that he is now with his beloved Reeva."
It is believed that Barry had been suffering from health issues for some time.
Barry and June Steenkamp's lives were forever shattered on Valentine’s Day 14 February 2013 when former paralympian Oscar Pistorious fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva through a closed bathroom door in their Pretoria home claiming he thought she was an intruder.
Pistorious was found guilty of culpable homicide, but the Supreme Court of Appeal later overturned it and replaced it with a murder conviction. Pistorious will be eligable for parole again in August 2024.
