Rock legend Brian May and fellow campaigners have won a major battle against the British giant supermarket chain Sainsbury's to save a threatened hedgehog habitat.
Taking to Instagram May announced that together with his team at the charities Save Me Trust and Amazing Grace, they were now forming a partnership with Sainsbury's to ‘enhance the habitat for animals’ instead of bulldozing over it.
May stepped in when it was discovered that Sainsbury's was planning on expanding their store at Burpham in Surrey, the expansion would have destroyed over 70 trees as well as the surrounding wildlife living in the area.
However, when Amazing Grace interceded, within just 24 hours Sainsbury's agreed to withdraw their plans and work with May and his team together to develop more wildlife-friendly plans.
May said that "Sainsbury's decision is a great step towards ensuring that wild animals already pushed into narrow corridors are able to survive and, more importantly, to thrive.”
May is also active in campaigning against the hunting of foxes and the culling of badgers in the UK.
Rock on May!
