Prince Harry joins fight against misinformation

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex

Life across the pond keeps getting busier and busier for the ex-royal who has added yet another job to his already impressive resume of business interests and philanthropic work since leaving ‘The Firm’.

Harry was  announced Wednesday as a commissioner for a US study into misinformation online by the non-profit Aspen Institute which said it was "honored" to have the Duke of Sussex as one of the 18 members of its "Commission on Information Disorder."

As part of the Aspen study, Harry will assist in conducting a  six-month investigation into misinformation and disinformation in the American digital world starting April.

The commission’s goal is to identify the key causes of the sharing and spreading of false information and then find solutions to stop the spread thereof.

Harry said in a statement, "The experience of today's digital world has us inundated with an avalanche of misinformation, affecting our ability as individuals as well as societies to think clearly and truly understand the world we live in."

The prince has had his share of misinformation printed about himself in the British press over the years and will no doubt use his experiences to assist the project. The commission will be co-chaired by Journalist Katie Couric, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson, and former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) director Chris Krebs.

This is the second job revealed in two days for Prince Harry who has also been appointed chief impact officer at ‘BetterUp’, a Californian coaching and mental health business.

With their Netflix deal and not forgetting the Archewell Foundation, it does not seem like Harry will have much time to put his feet up in his Montecito mansion anytime soon.

The mansion in the exclusive community in Santa Barbara is said to have cost in the region of R163 million rand – close friend Oprah Winfrey is a neighbor.
