Ladysmith Black Mambazo's collaborations with Paul Simon on his album Graceland in 1986 on the tracks Homeless and Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, introduced their genre of choral music to an international audience.
Thus began a friendship and working relationship that was to have a huge impact on the group’s future success - just one year later Simon produced their first major-label album, Shaka Zulu, which went on to win a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Recording. The rest, as they say, is history.
Paul Simon paid tribute to Joseph on social media saying simply, "People love Mambozo, I love Joseph.”
