Parkflix – the innovative concept that will get folk safely out of the house again

The organisers of the Splashy Fen Music Festival in Durban have been hard at work to come up with a way of getting folk out of the house to enjoy a measure of social interaction and entertainment while never leaving the safety of their vehicles.

Called Parkflix, it is described by the organisers as “ a unique & innovative concept that is set to be rolled out in Durban, Umhlanga & Hillcrest. Large LED screens with sound broadcast to your car radio will provide perfect venues for movies, live music, BINGO evenings, church gatherings, weddings & funerals. Arrive in your car, stay in your car, leave in your car, Parkflix is safer than grocery shopping.”

As we know the entertainment and events industries have been severely impacted by the national lockdown and it does not look like the situation is going to change for these industries in the foreseeable future. Parkflix is a perfect way of getting artists and events organisers working again while also allowing folk in isolation to leave their homes for some entertainment or to attend a wedding or church service.

According to the organisers up to 250 vehicles would be accommodated at a time in three different venues with every car tuning in to the particular event or function via their FM radio sets. Aside from having to use the bathroom, there would be no reason for patrons to leave the safety of their cars.

Stu Berry of Impi Concert Events has been quoted as saying “Right now, there is a need for innovative and creative thinking in our industry; and we’ve been working around the clock to create feasible new outlets for fans, artists and workers within the entertainment field. We are extremely excited to be launching Parkflix, in association with Splashy Fen, and working closely with the government to get the concept up and running as soon as we can.”

He went on to confirm to bizcommunity that the concept “meets all of the requirements and regulations pertaining to each of the Lockdown levels being implemented.”

As stated on their Facebook page.” We are working closely with government around the exact timing of when we will begin operating in line with the National Disaster Management Lockdown Levels, but expect a packed schedule with your favourite movies, KZN musicians, comedians and fun evenings such as Bingo. Proudly brought to you by Splashy Fen Music Festival. If you are interested in booking the venue for private functions, church groups, weddings or funerals please email info@splashyfen.co.za

There are no launch dates yet but if you would like to stay up to date on how this is going to role out you can follow the Parkflix Facebook page Parkflix Facebook page for updates on show dates and more exciting information.

It can only be hoped that once it is up and running, it will be introduced by the organisers to the rest of South Africa  - we are all so hungry for some sense of normality.
