Melissa Etheridge with son Beckett Cypher

Melissa Etheridge took to social media to share the news of the tragic passing of her 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher. He was pronounced dead in a downtown apartment in Denver this past Wednesday.

According to the Denver Post , “The medical examiner’s office is still investigating the cause and manner of his death, but Etheridge said in statement late Wednesday that Cypher  had struggled with opioid addiction and succumbed to it on Wednesday.”

58-year-old Etheridge said on Twitter, "My heart is broken. I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief.

"We struggle with what else we could have done to save him, and in the end we know he is out of the pain now."

Beckett Cypher was one of her two children with former partner Julie Cypher, their other child is a daughter - 23-year-old Bailey Cypher. Both children were conceived using artificial insemination and the sperm donor was later revealed to be 78-year-old singer David Crosby.

Bailey took to Instagram to share her heartbreak saying, "I don’t know what to say. Today we lost my brother. Too heartbroken and overwhelmed to be eloquent but appreciate all those who have reached out. I love you, Beckett. Fly high and watch over us.”

May you RIP Beckett Cypher.
