Parents sue TikTok over children’s deaths

It’s an alarming new trend on the social media platform - kids are urged to hold their breath until they pass out. The challenge, dubbed the Blackout Challenge, has allegedly resulted in the deaths of two girls aged 8 and 9.

Lalani Erika Walton, 8, from Tennessee, and Arriani Jaileen Arroyo, 9, from Milwaukee died after trying to choke themselves until they became unconscious. The two heartbroken families are claiming that their daughters accidentally hanged themselves while attempting the challenge which they say was “popularized by the app's algorithm”.   The wrongful death lawsuits were filed last week in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
