His album 'Mind of Mine' that was released earlier this year debuted at number 1 in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the US. Debuting at number one in the US made him the first British male solo artist to do so.
So to answer the question, yes, Zayn's solo career seems to be going strong, but will the remaining One Direction members be able to achieve the same success as solo artists?
Earlier this year reports came through that Harry Styles has been cast in a Christopher Nolan film called Dunkirk. Harry is said to be acting in the World War II drama alongside oscar winner, Mark Rylance. As far as his solo album is concerned, no solid information has been announced.
The latest band member to hit the solo career rumour mill, is Niall Horan. It is said that he could surprise everyone and become the 1D member with a successful solo career because of his song writing and music talent. His cheeky Irish attitude which was a favourite in America could also assist his career in taking off.
With all of the 1D members concentrating on solo projects, this may be the end. According to an article on channel24, Simon Cowell is uncertain of the bands future. He can't tell whether 1D is on a hiatus or if the band broke-up. Only time will tell.
