What does this mean for load shedding? A 7 % wage increase and an additional R400 housing subsidy accepted by trade unions representing Eskom strikers means that an extra R1 billion rand will be needed by the power utility every year - where will the money come from we wonder? And what does this mean for load shedding?
As posted in their media statement :
Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented today, 6 July, with varying stages implemented for the rest of the week.
They went on to say that some generation units have been returned to service over the past few days but this is not sufficient to suspend load shedding as other generation units have been taken offline for repairs.
So - load shedding will therefore continue as generation capacity shortages persist!
Eskom has cautioned that it will still take a few weeks for the power generation system to fully recover to pre-strike levels but they do anticipate that load shedding will gradually be lowered to Stage 2 by the weekend.
